Buckethead Pike Reviews

A Review of Pike 40 – Coat of Charms by Buckethead, released December 11th 2014

Good evening everybody, it's time for another visit to Bucketheadland for guitar hero Buckethead's 40th Pike album 'Coat of Charms'. So, let's begin. Woo!!

Released December 11th 2014 with a glorious cover depicting multiple zombiefied hands, Buckethead's 40th Pike album 'Coat of Charms' kicks off with track 1 'Hall of Aluminum' a cool reverb-delay style song that flows nicely and begins the album on a high note.

The title track 'Coat of Charms' is next and is the longest track on the album at just over 8.5 minutes long. A feel good chill track with excellent rhythm that once again uses the delay-reverb effectively. Thoroughly enjoyable and the 8.5 minutes fly by.

Track 3 Is the first of the albums 6 part suite titled 'Jettison'. With it's slow, pounding drums the track builds nicely with its delay effect occasionally breaking into heavy power chord riffage.

Jettison Part 2 continues nicely with what is the albums theme of rhythm and delay before hitting an excellent chorus around the 1.5 minute mark to see out the track.

Jettison Part 3 carries on where part 2 left out building nicely to part 4 where the heavy chord section comes in, elevating the song to greater heights.

Jettison Part 5 builds on part 4's chord section to keep the song moving along to the 2 minute mark where the headbanging and foot stomping licks take over.

The 6 part Jettison suite excellently climaxes with outstanding higher octave overlays and pounding riffs complemented by the drums that served the suite to a tee.

Overall Pike 40 has no weak points, is consistent throughout and an enjoyable album from start to finish.

After adding up the rating I gave for each track individually, It came to 69%,. And when rating the album with the 6 part Jettison suite as one complete song, it came to 73%, which I'd categorize as Good.

So, what's your rating for Pike 40?
To work out what percentage you'd give the album, rate each song out of 5 stars, add up your total and divide it by the total score possible, which for Pike 40 is 40 (or 15 is you rate Jettison as 1 track) . Then times it by 100.

Buckethead's Coat of Charms is a glorious tale of Rhythm and Delay.
